There's a "Wonder Woman / Steve Trevor Love Theme" that pops up several times in "The Savage Time", too.
Le 23/09/2004 à 02h39, Bruce Timm a écrit:We don't OFFICIALLY consider it "The Flash Theme", but the main melody from the chase in "Brave and Bold" IS referenced/paraphrased during the "Batcave Assault" sequence in "Starcrossed Part 3", if that helps.
Le 23/09/2004 à 02h52, Bruce Timm a écrit:Funny, I don't remember "J'onn's Theme" being in "Only a Dream" (but I'll take your word for it, my memory's pretty swiss-cheesy these days). I DO seem to think that it recurs in his "Martian Family Fantasy" sequences in "A Knight of Shadows".
That is, if we're talking about the same piece of music...that dreamy Philip Glass / X-Files-y bit, yes?
Again, we don't really consider it to be his "Official" Theme, but it HAS been used several times in association with him, so it's the closest thing to a theme he has.
Le 23/09/2004 à 03h00, Bruce Timm a écrit:It is ABSOLUTELY a "Hawkgirl / Green Lantern" moment, it's used in that particular instance to intentionally under-line Hawkgirl's love for John, to incite Talak's jealously. TBalena's right, it's the official "Hawkgirl / Green Lantern Love Theme", NOT the "Hawkgirl Theme". In fact, there IS no recurring "Hawkgirl Theme". Odd, isn't it?
Le 23/09/2004 à 03h04, Bruce Timm a écrit:Anytime you hear the "Batman Theme" in one of my shows, it's Shirley Walker's Theme. We've never EVER used the Elfman "Batman" Theme in an episode score. not once.
Le 23/09/2004 à 03h18, Bruce Timm a écrit:Hmmm, not sure which bit from "Terror" you're referring to as the "Aquaman Theme". There's a kind-of up-beat "Heroic March" that plays when he shows up in Ichthultu's dimension -- it's repeated somewhere else in that ep, but I can't remember just where at the moment. It MIGHT be under some Aquaman-action, hence your theory. But I think of that as just a generic "Heroic Rescue" cue, not specifically an "Aquaman" cue.
The closest thing to an actual "Aquaman Theme" is the "Family" cue that plays under his scene with Mera and Aquababy in Part One, then returns in a much grander arrangement in Part 2 as Dad and Baby are plummeting into the thermal vent. It's heroic as hell, but not really quite majestic and barbaric enough to be his real Theme.
Le 23/09/2004 à 03h24, Bruce Timm a écrit:I can't really go into it, but trust me, it's, shall we say, HIGHLY IMPROBABLE that Shirley would have used Elfman's Theme in one of her scores.
Le 24/09/2005 à 03h31, Bruce Timm a écrit:Anyone interested in the various Themes should check out "Divided we Fall", your one-stop shopping place for leitmotifs....In addition to the usual assortment of Flash, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman Themes, the Brainiac Theme makes several appearances (with drastically different arrangements, including an almost unrecognizable "celestial ELO" version under the "Ultimate Brainthor" reveal), the "Green Lantern / Hawkgirl Love Theme" is played TWICE (you gotta listen closely for it both times), the JLU Theme is played in a twisted minor key during the Justice Lords sequence, and then straight-up after Green Arrow's speech at the end (immediately preceding it there is one of Mike's cleverest touches, a reprise of the "Green Arrow gets drafted" cue from the "Initiation" teaser).....Listen REALLY closely when the Luthor-bot is taunting Superman to use his heat vision: the heavenly boys' choir is crooning the "Presidential immolation" music from "A Better World".....All in all, one of my favorite scores....
Incidentally, contrary to what one member posted above, the JLU Theme is RARELY used in the underscores....I think it shows up as part of a score for the first time at the end of "Panic in the Sky"....The original JL Theme (seasons 1 and 2) of course was played all Morricone twangy in "Once and Future Thing Part 1", but other than that, I don't remember it being used much in underscores either....
Le 24/09/2005 à 10h57, Bruce Timm a écrit:Oh, I didn't forget, I was merely confining my remarks to "Divided we Fall"....How could I forget the Batman Theme's inclusion in "Epilogue"? It was my idea to end the episode that way in the first place! Silly boy....
But speaking of "Epilogue", the JLU Theme can be heard there too, all teched-up, under Aquagirl's battle with Stalker....
Le 24/09/2005 à 19h01, Bruce Timm a écrit:Sorry, you're mis-remembering.....It's not Flash who never got a theme, it's Hawkgirl (and she STILL doesn't)....Also, Aquaman didn't have an "official" Theme until we were spotting "Wake the Dead" and I decided that the "Family/Responsibilities" Theme from "Enemy Below" (first heard in Part One and revved-up to mythic proportions in Part 2) would do.....
The Flash Theme was first heard in Superman TAS' "Speed Demons", re-worked and reprised in "Brave and Bold", and plays under the Flash/Lorder-Flash battle in "Divided we Fall"...
Le 25/09/2005 à 03h33, Bruce Timm a écrit:Huh....well, I was wrong, obviously....I guess I thought it wasn't his "official" theme because we rarely used it as such (at that time), certainly not as often as the Wonder Woman and Green Lantern Themes....also, I didn't realize it originated in "Speed Demons" until Mike recently told me so (I hadn't seen that episode in years)....Anyhow, I stand corrected.
Le 25/09/2005 à 03h56, Bruce Timm a écrit:the "Green Lantern / Hawkgirl Love Theme" is VERY hard to hear in "Divided", even if there weren't voices and sound effects burying it, as the arrangements are quite different than in earlier episodes....There's a really dark, angry version that plays under Lorder-GreenLantern-bot's "We loved the traitor" speech, and a very light, very slow version that plays when the real Green Lantern and Hawkgirl are gleefully destroying each other's counterparts....
And yes, that IS the "Green Arrow / Black Canary Love Theme" in "Double Date", carried over from "Cat and Canary"....Good ear, gm....
Le 27/09/2005 à 15h31, Bruce Timm a écrit:Nope, it was Dwayne's idea, written into the script...It then took three actors to realise the gag.....Kin took a shot, but couldn't quite get the tune right; I sang it, and that's what the overseas guys animated to; in post we decided my vocal quality didn't match Kin's enough, so Lex Lang pitched in and looped the final version....
Le 29/09/2005 à 04h15, Bruce Timm a écrit:Actually, I might have had a brain-fart, the Green Lantern Theme might not be in
"Divided" after all, I'll have to go back and check...But the music that plays when Diana is throwing the javelin definitely is her standard Theme....I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but her Theme is also in "The Balance" as she goes to town with Shayera's mace....
gmahler: How could you forget the ultra-dark version of the Superman Theme that plays as Superman gives Doomsday his ultimate smackdown in "Doomsday Sanction"? Right after "Guess I'll need a bigger fire"....
Le 29/09/2005 à 21h46, Bruce Timm a écrit:Are YOU sure it's not just her regular Theme with a different arrangement? I could have sworn.....
Huh...All this talk of a "Secondary" Wonder Woman Theme is odd...I'm gonna have to go re-check these out....
Le 01/10/2005 à 17h01, Bruce Timm a écrit:Ok, I've listened to "Divided" again, and sure enough you're right, it's not her standard Theme....The "Javelin Toss" music is actually a slowed-down reprise of the "Wonder Woman to the rescue" cue from "Savage Time Part 3" (dah-da-DAHH, dah-da-DAHHHHH, dah-da-DAH-dah-dahhh)....It plays right after Hawkgirl says "This isn't going to be easy" and Diana re-joins the group to attack Savage's flying armada...(and yes, you guessed it, it's another Mike McCuistion score)...
I've listened to the "Divided" score in my car dozens of times, mentally associating the music with Wonder Woman (correctly) and just automatically assumed it was her standard Theme (INcorrectly, obviously)....Funny how the brain works.....Kind of like the time I credited Phil LaMarr with playing Micron -- IN PRINT....Man, THAT was embarrassing....
Apparently I've been doing the same thing with the "Dark Heart" and "Doomsday" scores...I have to check those out again now, too....Fascinating...
Le 14/05/2006 à 07h04, Bruce Timm a écrit:I happened to be listening to the "Twilight Part 2" score the other day and noticed something for the first time...
At the end, after Superman and Batman have their little chat while gazing at the Brainiac-Darkseid-debris nebula, we cut to Highfather and Orion...Is the melancholy music that plays under the Highfather/Orion scene a reprise of Kris' score for "Apokolips now! Part One" ? Specifically, the music that plays under Mother Box's 2.35 "Cliff notes - Instant - Fourth world - History lesson" presentation?...It seemed kind of similar, but I might just be brain-farting...If any of you guys ever wanna compare the two sequences (I'm too freakin lazy) to confirm or deny, tbalena may have to add a "pact" Theme to his list....
Le 15/05/2006 à 01h58, Bruce Timm a écrit:Heh, a "Train Theme", who'da'thunk it...Those wacky composers....
Speaking of "Metamorphosis", I don't know if it's on the official list, but there IS a Metamorpho Theme, it plays several times throughout the 2-parter (don't ask me WHERE exactly, been awhile since I've seen it, or listened to the score)....The one REALLY prominent usage of it comes at the very end as he returns to life from the pile of goo, all sweeping romantic schmaltz...You can even sing his name along with the melody (though the composer swears it's unintentional)..."MEHHH-TA-MORPH-O....MEHH-TA-MOR-PHO...MEHHH-TA-MOR-PHO....WAAAAHHHHhhhhh..."
Le 19/05/2006 à 19h51, Bruce Timm a écrit:Oddly, MOST Superman Themes do that....The Fleischer cartoons, the George Reeves TV series, the first Christopher Reeve movie and Superman TAS all have Themes that say "SU-PER-MAN" somewhere in the melody....John williams' version: "daah-da-da-da-daahh...DAAHH-daahh-daahh...daahh-da-da-da-daah....SU-per-man"....Shirley's Superman TAS Theme says it over and over: "Su-per-MAN...Su-per-MAN...daahh, da-da-daahh, it's SU-per-man"...
Le 04/02/2007 à 09h21, Bruce Timm a écrit:Actually, Mike McCuistion originally DID score the "Speed force" sequence with a revved-up version of the "Flash Theme", but I didn't like it much...It was fun and exciting, but nothing more than that, kinda "typical"....It wasn't nearly as "grand" or "epic" as the scene called for...Basically, the "Flash Theme" is just too bouncy and light-hearted by its very nature, it has no "gravitas" whatsoever...
I told Mike "This isn't about Flash being fast or about him being a fun guy...It's about him pushing himself harder than he's ever had to before, doing everything he can to prevent a crazed all-powerful demi-god from destroying all of creation...This is the moment when Wally steps up from 'Comic Relief' to 'A-list Hero' with a capital H"...And that's exactly what he delivered on his second pass...
As for it being "Unlikely that they would've made up such an awesome piece for just one moment", well, that's what Mike, Kris and Lolita DO, they try to make EVERY moment as awesome as possible (and knock 'em clear out of the park nine times out of ten)...
Chernabog a écrit:Monsieur Timm a la mémoire courte car le thème de Danny Elfman (pour Batman) a bien été utilisé dans ses séries (au moins dans Batman TAS "Mort de Rire).
